Los Angeles, CA (August 8, 2013) – TypeEd, the Los Angeles-based program of typography courses for the creative community, is equipping designers with the skills to draw reader attention. In an upcoming workshop called “Mark My Word”, students will learn about logo marks and what makes them unique. They will learn how to see and implement proper scale, color, letterspacing and stroke weight management of custom letter forms. The first six-hour workshop introduced will take place on August 31 from 2:00 to 8:00pm at TypeEd's loft space in downtown Los Angeles, California.

Instructor Michael Stinson will review the basic elements and construction of a logo mark, discuss contemporary examples and how to analyze and approach the alteration and development of custom letter forms. Students will concept, draw, digitize and crit logotypes during the session. “You can buy a $250 logo or a $250,000 logo. What's the difference? We'll show you in this workshop. The most recognizable logo marks in the world were designed with teams dedicated to global research and development time. We begin the journey to discovering what makes them effective through the exploration of deconstructing and reconstructing,” states Stinson.

The cost for professional designers is $125 or $100 for AIGA Members and current college students. Pre-registration ends August 29 and is required before attending. Participants must have a basic understanding of letterform anatomy before enrolling and encompass basic Adobe Illustrator skills, or have taken the Type 1 Class offered at TypeEd. Participants must bring a laptop computer with Adobe Illustrator installed.
